Not A Cosmo by Koloman NYC

When cocktail making for the holidays also doubles as the perfect last minute present – you know you’ve hit Holiday Gold.  Meg Lazar, Head Bartender of Koloman restaurant in NYC created Not a Cosmo, which is a variation of, yes, a Cosmo. This one features Sinpatch Vodka, Amontillado Sherry and a lovely spiced Grenadine.

The spiced grenadine is easily made with pomegranate juice, pomegranate molasses, white wine, ginger, sugar, and spices- and makes the perfect gift. Bottle it, loop a pretty ribbon on it, and this ruby colored elixir becomes a great gift.

Meg Lazar says “I love Sinpatch Vodka in this variation of a Cosmo because I often find Cosmopolitans too lean or watery. Sinpatch Vodka offers the body necessary to hold up the richness and spice of the grenadine. It’s a great drink anytime but especially for the holidays”.

Not a Cosmo (Play on the idea of a Cosmo)


2 oz Sinpatch Vodka
1/2 oz Amontillado Sherry
3/4 oz Spiced grenadine (spiced pomegranate syrup)
1 oz Lime Juice


Add all ingredients to a tin. Fine strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with star anise.

Ingredients for Spiced Grenadine

16 oz 100% pomegranate juice like POM Wonderful
4 oz pomegranate molasses
3/4 oz rose or orange blossom water
30g cinnamon
10g coriander
4 Stars Anise
20 cardamom pods
750ml white wine (preferably Riesling)
900g Sugar
150g fresh ginger


Heat pomegranate juice at low temperature until dissolved. Add pomegranate molasses and stir until dissolved. Add the spices and let them lightly simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in rose or orange blossom water. Allow to sit overnight. The next day, strain, bottle and label, gift!

Once the grenadine is made, this is a very easy, beautiful festive holiday drink to make for a crowd. Just add Sinpatch Vodka, sherry and lime.
